YARN ALONG [AND A GIVEAWAY]

Hodge-podge [hoj-poj]:
noun
a heterogeneous mixture;  jumble

 We started lessons this week
and it has been raining and raining
[and then raining a lot more]keeping
us indoors for most of the day so
knitting this week is all about
ease and tranquility.

I have small projects on the needles
scattered around to pick up and set
down whenever I have a moment.
A Miranda Hat in soft silk bamboo.
A Chuck's Cowl in soft wool, and
a simple little dish cloth knitting
four, purling 4 across for small squares.

Reading is a book I first heard about
on Elizabeth's blog. It is turning out
to be the best book I have read all
year. I love the author, Jen Hatmaker's,
conversational writing style and have
plans to order more of her books.
Amazon says about 7,

7 is the true story of how Jen (along with her

husband and her children to varying degrees)
took seven months, identified seven areas of
excess, and made seven simple choices to fight
back against the modern-day diseases of greed,
materialism, and overindulgence.

I am having a button giveaway
over here if you are interested. :)

A WORLD OF BEAUTY

Nothing is more beautiful than
the loveliness of the woods before
sunrise.

~George Washington Carver

The world is filled with beauty and
I hope you are taking the time to notice.

WEEKENDING

The family is one of
nature's masterpieces.

~George Santayana

Family was center this
Saturday as tuxedos
were ordered and the
first of many shower's
was attended in honor
of the up coming wedding.
It was fun meeting all
the new people that
will now be in my
life because of a new love
and realizing just how
small this world really is.
Now if I can just find a
dress...ahem!

Sunday has been books
and paper as we start
the first day of school
on Monday and a few items
needed to be tweaked. While
summer has been lovely
and I have enjoyed floating
from one hour to the
next, it really is time
for a little structure to my
days.

My birthday is fast
approaching and that
always means a giveaway,
this year is no exception. :)

BUTTONS...A GIVEAWAY

Too often we underestimate
the power of a touch, a smile,
a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment, or
the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential
to turn a life around.
~ Leo Buscaglia

Once again I find myself  eternally
grateful to all of you who take the
time to visit, to leave a comment,
send an email, inspire me, cry with
me and laugh with me. I am touched,
honored and awed by all of you.

I have been enjoying a new little hobby,
button making and would like to share
with you. I am giving away two 1 1/4
inch buttons made from a whitetail deer
antler shed. The buttons have been
sanded, polished, oiled and polished again.

Leave me a comment letting me know what
you are most looking forward to this fall [or
spring if you are on the other side of the world].
If you live in the US the last summer holiday
is next weekend so I will wait and randomly
draw a name on my birthday, September 6.
I like giving gifts on my birthday so I thought
that would be a perfect day.

Much love to all of you and have a great
weekend.

IT NEVER GETS EASIER

It is one thing to show your
child the way, and a harder
thing to then stand out of it.

YARN ALONG

Create each day anew by
clothing yourself with heaven
and earth, bathing yourself
with wisdom and love, and
placing yourself in the heart
of Mother Nature.

~Morihei Ueshiba

This week another
 Pebble Tank, this time
in  green cotton. I am knitting
a patch pocket to add to the
front of the tank along with an
antler button.
Really, I just want an excuse
to use one of the buttons I have
been working on for days.
Interested in a few antler buttons
of your own? Be sure to check back
in a few days for a giveaway.  :)

My youngest son read
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
and ask if I would read it
so we could discuss a few points.
I must confess that at first I put off
reading this book, the cover isn't
that attactive, I thought the
book would be scary and not at all
what I enjoy reading, I was wrong.
The writing grabbed me on the second
page and I am  reading way past
my bedtime just because I want to
know how it all turns out.
Do you read out of your comfort zone?

I wanted to say thank you for all the
well wishes on my anniversary
yesterday, y'all are all so
sweet.

THIRTY YEARS

“The most wonderful of all things in life,
I believe, is the discovery of another human
being with whom one's relationship has a
growing depth, beauty, and joy as the
years increase. This inner progressiveness
of love between two human beings is a
most marvelous thing; it cannot be found
by looking for it or by passionately wishing
for it. It is a sort of divine accident,
and the most wonderful of all things in life.”
~ Hugh Walpole, Sr.

WEEKENDING

“The Sea,
 once it casts its spell,
holds one in its net of
wonder forever.”

--Jacques Cousteau

A weekend of crossing bridges,
breathing in the salt air as the
waves renewed my soul.
Watching a lone shrimp boat
wait her turn under the draw bridge
and hoping the shrimpers have
a great season as the last few
years have been hard on them.
An unexpected sleepover with
my favorite four year old!!!
Hearing all about her new school
and the friends she is making.
Collecting all the hugs I can
and holding them tight inside
my heart.
The studio has been cleaned so
today will be paints and pencils
as I need to fill the long hours,
but thankful for each and every
one of them.
I hope your weekend is going
well and it has been filled with
unexpected happy surprises!

I CREATE MYSELF

The philosophy of mine earth
can be summed up as this:
Sunshine creates happiness,
and I create myself. Nights
are long and life is predominantly
good. Wind is refreshing. Tea is
wisdom. Do the best you can,
and be good to yourself so
that you can above all be
good to others.

~Jessi Lane Adams

YARN ALONG

Knitting is a boon for
those of us who are
easily bored. I take
my knitting everywhere
to take the edge off of
moments that would
otherwise drive me stark
raving mad.
~ Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

A quick and easy knit
that was perfect to do
while watching the
London Olympics.

Reading  another great
book from Stephanie
Pearl-McPhee because
she makes me laugh out
loud.
