WEEKENDING

The family is one of
nature's masterpieces.

~George Santayana

Family was center this
Saturday as tuxedos
were ordered and the
first of many shower's
was attended in honor
of the up coming wedding.
It was fun meeting all
the new people that
will now be in my
life because of a new love
and realizing just how
small this world really is.
Now if I can just find a
dress...ahem!

Sunday has been books
and paper as we start
the first day of school
on Monday and a few items
needed to be tweaked. While
summer has been lovely
and I have enjoyed floating
from one hour to the
next, it really is time
for a little structure to my
days.

My birthday is fast
approaching and that
always means a giveaway,
this year is no exception. :)

Joining with Amanda.

THIRTY YEARS

“The most wonderful of all things in life,
I believe, is the discovery of another human
being with whom one's relationship has a
growing depth, beauty, and joy as the
years increase. This inner progressiveness
of love between two human beings is a
most marvelous thing; it cannot be found
by looking for it or by passionately wishing
for it. It is a sort of divine accident,
and the most wonderful of all things in life.”
~ Hugh Walpole, Sr.

1918

A man's age is something impressive,
it sums up his life: maturity reached
  slowly and against many obstacles,
illnesses cured, griefs and despairs
  overcome, and unconscious risks taken;
maturity formed through so many desires,
  hopes, regrets, forgotten things, loves.
  A man's age represents a fine cargo
 of experiences and memories.
~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Today my Grandfather is celebrating his
94th birthday. Did I tell you he lives
alone, takes no medications, has his
own teeth and is sharp as a tack?
He is the father of three children,
eight grandchildren, sixteen great
grandchilden and one great-great
grandchild.  Since 1918 there
have been many inventions in this
world and we have been having a
grand time looking up some of
them. Doesn't it make you
wonder what will be invented in
your life time?

A SEED

Don't judge each day by
the harvest you reap,
but by the seeds that
you plant.

~Robert Louis Stevenson

to watch it grow and to
be apart of something
so beautiful...thank you

A LOVE GIVEAWAY

Each friend represents a world in us,
a world possibly not born until they
arrive.
  ~Anäis Nin

Twenty nine years ago today
I became a mother for the
first time. In celebration of
my daughter's birthday I
thought it would be nice to
have a giveaway to celebrate
not only her birth, but that of
the friendships I have made
the world over. Celebrations
are always so much nicer if
you can share them with
friends, don't you think?
Each of you has enriched
my life, inspired me, and
made my days brighter,
happier and fuller than I
ever thought possible and
I thought it was way overdue
to offer something in return.
It's just a little something in
comparison to the friendships
I have made here, but please
know that I love you all.

I am giving away a ceramic tea
carafe that I picked up on
my trip to World Market,
a jar of tea honey from the
Savannah Bee Company,
and five - one  cup servings
of Harney & Sons Chocolate Black Tea
in a little love envelop I made.

If you would like a chance to
win, just leave a comment.
I will leave the giveaway
open for one week and
announce a randomly
picked winner next Monday.
xx

Update: This giveaway is opened
to everyone, no matter where you
live in the world! :)

HAPPY

Listen, can you hear it?
Spring's sweet cantata.
The strains of grass
pushing through the snow.
The song of buds swelling
on the vine. The tender
timpani of a baby robin's heart.
 Spring.

~Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider

Happy first day
of spring and
happy birthday to
my baby who is 19
today. I love you
Peter.  I hope
each and everyone
of you has a day
filled with happiness
and you smile!

Happy St. Valentine's Day

Nobody has ever measured,
even poets, how much a heart
 can hold.

~Zelda Fitzgerald

[A surprise heart I found floating in my miso soup]
I want to say thank you for
all the prayers to my Weekending
post, they mean so much and
I have passed them on to
the person who can really use
them.

You have all filled my
heart with so much love and
I just want to say that I am
honored to call you all my
friends and you are loved!

I wish you the happiest of
St. Valentine's Day!

A NEW YEAR IS BEGINNING AGAIN

New Year's eve is like every other night;
there is no pause in the march of the
universe, no breathless moment of
silence among created things that the
passage of another twelve months may
be noted; and yet no man has quite the
same thoughts this evening that come
with the coming of darkness on other nights.

 ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

2011 is drawing to a close;
I look back and it feels like
it was all a blur because it
went by so fast!

I didn't want the year to end
without  saying Thank you to
all the wonderful people I
have met here. You have
all enriched my days, my
life and I am a better person
for having our paths cross.
As the new year unfolds, with
all the joys and heartaches,
the ups and downs, the boring
and the highs that life always
brings, I know one thing...I
will always be thankful for you!
With much love on this night,
stay safe and I'll see you in
the new year.

CHRISTMAS TIME

Our hearts grow tender with
 childhood memories and love
of kindred, and we are better
throughout the year for having,
in spirit, become a child again
at Christmas-time.

 ~Laura Ingalls Wilder

There are quite a bit of Christmas
memories being made here in my
home so I'll be back to this space
next week.
I wish each and every one of you
a holiday filled with love and
happiness.

IT"S A BABY SHOWER: WELCOME

A baby is God's opinion
 that the world should go
on.

~Carl Sandburg

First I would like to say
welcome and thank you
for coming.
Today is the
day of Amanda's
shower.
 The coffee and
tea are on the sideboard and
the dining room table is
set with an array of goodies
so please help yourself.
Once you have a plate
I thought we could all
sit in the living room.
Amanda, you have the rocking
chair Okay? I think it
will be most comfortable
for you and also easy
to get up if you need
to. I have you a corsage
for your wrist if you
would like to put it on.
After all, you are the
guest of honor.
I really am not one
for baby shower games so
I hope you won't mind
if we get right to the
gifts and I'll be happy
to start things off.
First, as many of you know
I was to have another
grandchild, but that wasn't
meant to be. I did however
make a little knit vest,
which was inspired by Amanda,
and I would like to give
it to the Caboose. I still need
to sew the buttons on, but
that won't take but a minute.

Next, I have a few burp rags
that I decorated with a little
retro material. Just so you
know, in my head I am a
seamstress, in reality, not
so much, but I did make
these with love if that counts.

There is also a little denim
bag since I don't thing you can
ever have too many bags.

I loved knitting Ginny's hat
so much that of course I
needed to do one for this
little one too.

[picture taken earlier as it is cloudy outside today]
With Christmas right around
the corner I do have a little
something else, but I would
like to keep that a surprise
Amanda okay? You will just
have to wait until the box
arrives! :)
Amanda, I wish you an
easy labor, a quick recovery,
and lots of love as you
welcome this new life into
your family.
Now, who would like to
go next? I didn't figure
out how to work the linky
thing so I thought everyone
could just leave a link
to their post in the comment
section. If you need Amanda's
address you can contact
either me or Amanda.
Thank you all for coming
and I hope you have
enjoyed yourselves.
xx

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

WHY MARRIAGE?
~ By: Mari Nichols-Haining ~

Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,
With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...

Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,
Who won't hold them against me,
Who loves me when I'm unlikable,
Who sees the small child in me, and
Who looks for the divine potential of me...

Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night
With someone who thanks God for me,
With someone I feel blessed to hold...

Because marriage means opportunity
To grow in love in friendship...

Because marriage is a discipline
To be added to a list of achievements...

Because marriages do not fail, people fail
When they enter into marriage
Expecting another to make them whole...

Because, knowing this,
I promise myself to take full responsibility
For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness
I create me,
I take half of the responsibility for my marriage
Together we create our marriage...

Because with this understanding
The possibilities are limitless.

Happy 29 years-
My, that was fast!

Easter 2011

"Angels, roll the rock away,
Death, yield up thy mighty prey:
See, He rises from the tomb,
Glowing with immortal bloom."

Two years

This weekend family and friends celebrated a second year birthday.

There were beautiful people, good food, great weather- all the right ingredients for a good party. And it was a good party-no, a fabulous party.

Smiles were seen and laughter was heard, candles were lit and blown out, presents were given and received.

Moments were captured to be cherished over the years.

Two years- a lifetime of love.
