PATIENCE

Adopt the pace of nature:
her secret is patience.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Figs, my all time favorite fruit,
the main ingredient in my favorite
salad, The fruit I need to make
this, and then I want to try this, this.
this, and this. Oh, and then there
is this too!

Patience? It's hard sometimes.

  1. Those figs are looking very promising. Mine have now come to an end with the leaves crisping and starting to fall....but oh so slowly as the beginning of autumn has still been quite warm. Patience.......wish I had more of it.

  8. How wonderful! Spring is so exciting. We're so glad that the fruit trees haven't started blooming as we are expecting a big dip in temperatures and a little snow this evening. Winter just won't let go.

  9. I have never actually tasted a fig! The only thing I know about figs is "figgy pudding" from The Muppet Christmas CD with John Denver and it never sounded good to me! Just like I did with dried dates, I may have to give them a chance now that I'm an adult!

  12. A friend gave C a fig and she loved it. I like them in fig newmans or fig newtons. I'm not sure how to eat one? Do you peel it? or just cut it up and eat the peel?

  13. That quote nearly brought tears to my eyes.
We have a tiny Fig tree we planted last year, and I'm almost sure, across the yard, we have one that is a self-starter that just appeared one day. If I'm right, I can't imagine a better tree to appear.

  14. Figs are one of my very favourite fruit. Second only to old variety english apples and strawberries :) I wish figs grew well in our English garden, alas we have to buy them rather than pick them. xx

  15. Oh this is making me wistful for the huge fig tree that we had at our old house on Maui. Yum! Buying figs here is ridiculously expensive. You are pretty lucky to have a backyard source.

  16. I used to make a cheese and fig quesadilla and then sprinkle a little balsamic vinegar on top. It was wonderful! If I had time I would add caramelized onions to it.

  17. Just look at your fig tree! Wow! I brought mine out of the garage on the weekend and put it on the back deck and started watering it again. I think it did well over the winter so hopefully in a few months we'll have enough figs to try one of those fantastic-looking recipes you posted!

  18. Do take pics if you make any of these recipes! I have had the purple figs and then green ones. I remember going on the 5th grade picnic and seeing the green figs. One of my parents had me try it when I declined with a face. She was a chef then. It was surprisingly good. I'll need to buy them when they come into Trader Joe's.
