WEEKENDING

be gentle with yourself,
you're doing the best
you can

~ hp

I spent all day Saturday gutting
a spare room. Burning old papers.
Filling bags of useless things to haul
to the dump. Making piles of items to
be donated, items still good, but
no longer needed in my life now.
Items that can be loved by someone other
than me. Trying really hard to let go,
to make space. To know that these are
just things. To now embrace the clean
spaces, the openness, the feelings of
freedom and lightness that come after
all the hard work.

I still have one more room to go, but
that will wait until tomorrow.
I'm doing the best that I can and yesterday
was hard....
today I am going to
knit.

  1. "Just" letting go can be one of the hardest things we have to deal with. Hopefully today will be a good day for you!

  2. We did something similar. For.. different reasons. Our washing machine broke and the laundry room is.. well a "mess" is putting it lightly. The Elf and I cleaned a huge portion of the livingroom/kitchen/path-to-the-laundry-room. When B came home he tackled the laundry room itself. I want to clean more of the house. Downsize and let go. But.. our outside trash bin is completely full! Oh my. So it'll wait until after trash day, I guess. (:

  3. I find it hard to do this too. It always feels good to have the space and clean areas but it is hard to let go too. We did that this weekend. We have had a couch in our garage for almost 3 years. Taking up space that we could be using. Yesterday my cousin came to take it for his new apartment. I am glad it is gone and that it went to a good home where it will be used. But I was a bit sad to see it go! Even though we haven't used it for years!

  7. Always hard to get rid of stuff, even if you know it is just stuff. It does feel better though, the clean, clear space.

Hope you enjoyed your day Tracey, and wishing a lovely week ahead.

  9. I'm planning to do the same here ... I think we''ll need a skip. It's going to be hard but I'm really looking forwards to the feeling lighter afterwards.

Have fun with that knitting x

  10. Why is letting go of stuff so hard sometimes? I'm glad you were able to do it and find some freedom in it. Now go and knit - you earned it!

  13. Cleaning and letting go of things, it is hard as you go down memory lane every time you crap a new thing. Someone else will love your things as you did - keep that in mind.
Like Katie writes: 1 day work and 1 day play = good balance
    Enjoy your day of knitting.

  14. This is hard but cleansing...a little every day or baby steps- you are on your way to let in more space to breathe Tracey. Good for you. Keep up the good work- I finished with my kitchen and dining room last week. Next is the Garage.

  15. I wish I could burn old papers that I need to get rid of. That's a big no-no here.

  17. oh - so inspired! my purge is very slow - a pile here, a drawer there - bit by bit. hoping to tackle the basement next but a whole room - that will take alot of energy.
