YARN ALONG

Train up a fig tree in the way it should go,
and when you are old sit under the shade
of it.

~ Charles Dickens

It took my four tries because
I kept messing up,  [I know,
I just couldn't get it together],
but now I am knitting away
on  Aise.  This will make a great
travel project and one I will
probably be knitting on for
awhile.

I am using Araucania Yumbrel.
which is a cotton lace weight
yarn perfect for knitting in
the sweltering summer heat
I have been experiencing.

I forgot to take my book outside
when I was taking photos, but I
am reading The Husband's Secret.

PS- The figs are turning so now it's
a race to bet the birds to the ripe ones.
Do you like figs?

  3. Lovely knit. My in laws have a fig tree in their yard and I hoping to harvest some this year. Any good recipes?

  4. Tracey, I DO like figs! Your trees are gorgeous. I surely hope you are able to get to them as they ripen before the birds get there! I'd suggest using netting to cover them for protection, but I have a feeling it would take an enormous amount of netting!

I checked out the pattern you are knitting now. It is beautiful and yours will be gorgeous with all of those delightful colors in the yarn!

    Happy reading! and hugs!

    1. It's okay Debby, I just get a little confused with all the jumping back and forth between characters.

  7. Love today's quote, Tracey. :) And your new wrap as well as the lovely yarn you're knitting it with. Enjoy!

We are racing the birds when it comes to our berries. Anna found a bluebird caught under the bird netting protecting our blueberries the other morning... :( Thankfully, it was ok. She's such a softy when it comes to animals of any variety.

    Blessings, xo Lisa

    1. Yes, isn't it pretty? My fig tree is 20 years old so it's had a long time to grow. This year I can't even reach the top of the tree on a ladder. Now if I could just get the birds to eat the figs on top and leave the other ones alone.

  9. I LOVE figs!! We had a fig tree at our old house and I so enjoyed having it. Sadly the previous owner had planted it in such a bad spot, we eventually had to cut it down. :-( Looked at the pattern for your knitting project and it is wonderful. Can't wait to see what it'll look like with the pretty yarn you chose for it.

  14. We had a fig tree growing up. It was my dad's pride and joy. We lost it when we moved even though we tried to transplant it. I love the colors in your yarn! So perfect for summer.

  19. Your post gives me hope that I can keep on trying to cast on and knit a cowl I want to make. My first try was unsuccessful. Maybe it is time to try again. The yarn you are using is so pretty. What a beautiful fig tree. A home in my neighborhood has several of them but this year they took a long time to start growing. It must have been the brutal winter we had that affected them.

  23. I don't eat figs often but they're good. Makes me remember how I had made a gave at the green figs a parent/chef had brought to our fifth grade picnic and she had me they it. I was mo-ded as it was good. I've had the purple ones too.

  24. Beautiful colorway of your yarn! That will be so pretty knit up. Lucky you to have a fig tree. I can't say I've had many but I see so many simple recipes for yummy tarts and treats this time of year, I wish I did.

  25. I've only ever had figs in fancy restaurants and in Fig Newtons - two different ends of the spectrum!
