Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb,
Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum
In the cavernous pail of the first one to come!
And all ripe together, not some of them green
And some of them ripe! You ought to have seen!
~Robert Frost

It's blueberry season!

I am picking berries daily
trying to beat the birds,
squirrels and deer. Most
will end up in the freezer
to be used throughout
the year in smoothies,
pies and muffins, but
truthfully my favorite way
to enjoy blueberries is right
off the tree.

I found this recipe that I
think will be a big hit with
my guys. And I always
make this pie at least
once or twice during berry
season,  topped with
homemade ice cream it
tastes just like summer.
Oh, and I can't forget these.
I have a fifteen year old
that can eat a batch by

Do you have blueberries, either
in your yard or from the market?
Do you have a  favorite recipe to

  1. We love blueberries here! We mainly eat the wild blueberries that grow in Maine. Which means we either have to rake for them, or buy them from the co-op. They are delicious though. We use them in blueberry pie, smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, and just as a frozen snack. Yum!

  2. I have never tried to grow blueberries, but how much fun that would be. I do have a bunch in my freezer for smoothies. Love them!

  3. I love blueberries and have had a small bush in the garden for a couple of years but I never get any fruit. These look amazing. I eat tons of them but never bake with them. I just love them like you as they are or with cereal and lots of other fruit.

  4. Yumm! I love blueberries! I recently made this Blueberry Frozen Yogurt* and it was delicious. I don't keep milk in the house so I substituted kefir and it was great!

  5. Oh I am so envious of your blueberry tree/bush. I love blueberries especially with greek yoghury and runny honey - thats one of my favourite breakfasts.

  6. Oh Tracey! How fortunate you are to have this wonderful fruit growing in your garden. We tried to grow blueberries here in South Africa a little while ago but alas they didn't thrive.

  7. Oh how I love Robert Frost!...and such pretty blueberries!

    ~Have a lovely day!

  8. we have a fabulous patch about 25 miles away where we can pay to pick.
BUT.....I am starting out own patch. Trouble is, I just have three bushes and can't find more to buy!

We froze a bunch that we picked off the vine. They are literally CREAMY and the girls just eat them straight of the the freezer.

  9. Hi Tracey, I love blue berries - would love to be able to grow some. Don't know how they would do in the Arizona heat. I had to take my old blog private due to some security issues. Started anew and would love to have you visit my new blog, comment and follow along if you wish. Have a wonderful 4th of July.

  10. oh my goodness, you are so lucky all those fresh blueberries. ahhhh i love blueberries. my favorite way to eat them is fresh on plain greek yogurt with a smidge of local honey. although i do love blueberry pancakes, muffins and a custard pie (similar to the one you make minus the crumb topping). those crumb bars look AMAZING. i think i might be making that soon.

  11. Yes, Please we'll have some! In fact, I just fed the last of the one we had from the market to C for breakfast. When she was done, she said "more booberrries peese" I told her we were out and she looked at me and said buy some. Guess what were getting to day?
I made blueberry syrup earlier this summer for our "cakes" Dee-lish. I'll see if I can't find the recipe to forward on.

  12. Oh my look at those, beautiful! We pick at a farm not too far from here and they get eaten fresh or frozen for future use. I am going to make some blueberry jam this year though, thought it might be a nice change. Enjoy them Tracey!

  13. We are just in strawberry season but blueberries will be along soon enough. I did by some today that were a very good price and look wonderful, so I'm thinking they didn't have to travel too far? Thanks for the links ~ the crumble bars look amazing!

  14. Our blueberries are just beginning to ripen, a few here and there. Fingers are crossed that we get a few days of sunshine to push them into ripening.
Thanks for the recipe links, they look great!

  15. Your plans for your blueberries sound so good. So cool how you have your own bush in your backyard.

  16. blueberries yoghurt and granola every morning!!!! YUMMMY!

(I'm a real sucker for pie---of any kind; I've got to try that one!)

  17. Something to look forward to in this part of the world.

  18. You are so lucky to have berries like that in abundance! I can just see you trying to beat the wild life to those yummy treats! Blueberries are my favorite out of all the berries.

  19. How good do those pie and bar recipes look! I like blueberries but they are always so expensive here - don't ask me why! This crop look fabulous
