A WORKING WEEKEND

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times
a day, and stand in deep contemplation
over my vegetable progeny with a love
that nobody could share or conceive of
who had never taken part in the process
of creation. It was one of the most
bewitching sights in the world to
observe a hill of beans thrusting
aside the soil, or a rose of early
peas just peeping forth sufficiently
to trace a line of delicate green.

~Nathaniel Hawthorne

Thank you for all the love, hugs,
and advise on my last post. Today
I am feeling better and moving
on, learning to adjust to another
change in my life, although I
don't find change easy.

While I dreamed of heading to the
shore this weekend, I knew there
was work to be done at home that
couldn't be put off, so I spent most
of my weekend in the garden. There
is always weeding to do and still
things to plant, and now vegetables
to pick.

It won't be long before my kitchen
will overflow with this year's harvest.
Do you have a garden planted?
Do you 'put food up'?

  4. Your garden is beautiful and how wonderful to have produce ready to harvest. I have seedlings in modules ready to go out. My tomato plants are looking strong as are my beans. I am hoping to put up more stuff this year, as the garden matures.
So glad you are feeling brighter - still holding your hand xx

  9. I'm glad you feel better. I did read your post and felt (feel) for you but just couldn't come up with any words to say, sorry.
Your plants are looking wonderful, so far along already!
This year we are thinking of mainly just concentrating on our herbs and doing some actual landscaping. My pride and joy this spring are the little Vinca seedlings (I harvested my own seeds in fall) that are greeting me every day, several times a day, i keep checking on them every few hours :)

  10. I'm so glad that you are feeling better Tracey. This post resonates with me because at last it's warming up and I've planted out some beans...I love when those little green fronds begin to unfurl.

Thanks for the Everlasting Meal recommendation...My copy came and although very busy I'm avidly reading it...You were right, it's just my cup of tea.

I love the Nathanial Hawthorne quote, I think I'll make a note of it. Thanks for sharing.
    Enjoy your vegetable progeny.
