YARN ALONG

"Every domain of human
experience can serve as
the laboratory of faith."

~James S. Spiegel

I have learned something about myself
while knitting away on this Tiny Tea Leaves,
I do not like knitting button bands, at all.
I have knit and re knit the button band
three times and it is just going to have to do.
Next time I knit a cardigan I think I will
incorporate the button band into the body
as I knit and then there just won't be any
problems.

All that is left to knit is one sleeve,
sew the buttons on and block.
I found the cutest little duck buttons
at my LYS yesterday and think
they will look so sweet on the cardigan,
what do you think?

I am still plugging away on my
Learning to Weave lessons and
having a great time.

I am also reading from my book
shelve and have put myself on
restriction from Amazon until
I read all the books I have here
that haven't been read yet. I was
putting the newest order away
the other day and realized I have
rows of books that haven't been
finished, some not even opened,
and yet I still buy more. No more.
I am going to read and enjoy what
I have here and then we will see
if I can control myself when I
visit a book store or browse Amazon.
My first book from the shelf is
Gum Geckos and God. It is a book
that helps you talk with children
about Christian doctrine in a light
and often funny way and I am
thoroughly enjoying it.

I can't wait to see what you have
been up to this week. Have a
beautiful Wednesday.

Joining with Ginny and all the
Yarn Alonger's.

  1. I love the colour of your tiny tea leaves, and those buttons, too cute.

I can relate to the books, there are many unread ones on my shelf too. I am working to remedy that :)

  5. I like that you are "reading from stash." Gorgeous sweater, Tracey. I think the buttons are perfect. The last sweater I did with button bans and collar took some doing, but I do love the result.

  6. Oh my gosh, I was delighted when I saw the little ducks. Then I read that they are BUTTONS, and now I'm in button-love. They will look smashing on your lovely Tiny Tea Leaves! I can't stand doing button bands after the fact either. So hard to get them to lay smoothly. I much prefer an incorporated band.

Beautiful photos. So lovely to see flowers!

  7. I love your sweater! Such a beautiful color! You inspire me with your commitment to read what you have before buying more. I keep saying I am going to do that, then seem always to hear about or find "just one more book" that I have to get! My "to read" shelves are full but now, like you, I am going to read what I already have before getting more! That book you are reading sounds very interesting, but guess what, I am not going to get it (library maybe?) until I have read what I already have. Enjoy the rest of the week!

  8. Oh that is so good to know about the Tiny Tea Leaves pattern. I detest knitting button rows as well. When I start Ree's I'll remember to incorporate it into the body. The little buttons are darling! I love them. They are perfect! I put myself on a book buying halt a few years ago. Now I just go to the library. I STILL have shelves of books I haven't read yet!

  9. I have a pile of books I'm slogging through. I decided in January to quit buying until I thin out what I own. Love your tea leaves and sorry the button band was a challenge. Love love the duck buttons!!!

  10. Emerson is going to look absolutely adorable in that sweater (doesn't she look adorable in everything, though????) So cute---perfect buttons!

  11. Oh, button bands. Yes. The worst part? Picking up all of those stitches. Ugh. I'm knitting a hoodie for the Beast right now. Once I finish the never-ending-hood-of-doom I'll be picking up 216 stitches (or thereabouts). To say that I'm not looking forward to it would be an understatement. In fact, I fully expect to have to bribe myself with chocolate and coffee in order to get through it. (:

  13. Hi Tracey,
Your Tea Leaves is looking beautiful! I must admit I also felt the same way about the button band. I just couldn't believe I had to knit it at the end when I could have so easily knitted it with the rest of the project.

It's a wonderful idea to read through all the books you have on your bookshelf. I think I must try that too, I have far too many books I haven't read!

    Take care:)

  15. Those duckie buttons are wonderful. And the book sounds really good too I'll have to look for it (although I am definately right there needing some restriction on books coming into the house - but my problem is more the library!)

  16. gasp, that cloud picture!! and I am speechless about all your beautiful knitting....
    good luck with the restriction
    I am terrible with restrictions

  19. I LOVE the ducks! They will look fabulous all in a row on that beautiful blue sweater! I know what you mean about a bookshelf full of unread book. I'm right there with you. I'm working on it and I must stop checking out books from the library until I finish them. HaHa that will never happen!

  20. Oh I know what you mean about button bands! Love the duck buttons hope they don't snag on the wool.

  21. Your book sounds incredibly interesting! I think I will have to check it out! And the sweater is beautiful! I love the yarn color.

  22. Such lovely pictures! Well, troublesome buttonband or no, your sweater is lovely and I really like the color. I know what you mean by books. They are an addiction that is hard to stay away from. Who was it that said, "When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."?

  23. I'm on a self-imposed amazon restriction, too!
Your tiny tea leaves looks lovely. I thought I didn't like button bands but I actually think that it makes button placement easier (or perhaps that's just me?!).
Your rosemary looks lovely and green with new growth. I love getting a peek into your garden as you're slightly ahead of our climate, here.

  24. That little cardigan is so cute!

Ugh...I, too, have a whole bunch of books waiting for me on my bookshelf. Fortunately, finances don't allow me to buy books for a while, so that's a good thing.

  25. is that rosemary blooming? it looks a lot like our rosemary that is blooming, such lovely little flowers.
love those duck buttons, perfect pairing with the lovely purple!
funny, we have bookshelf upon bookshelf full of books, and yet i am always buying more. lol

  27. I'm going to have to take a peek at that book! Sounds like something my little men could benefit from. Love your pictures, always do :) They make me feel like Spring is just a moment away!

  28. I've yet to knit a button band but should really take up the challenge this year. Your cardigan is looking lovely so far and I love that you're on a book diet. I am, too, and my local library is my best friend these days!

  29. I'm with you on the button bands! I always re-jigger my numbers so I can include the button band in the actual knitting of the body. Much easier!

  30. the sweater is lovely! The buttons will be darling!

  31. The sweater is really nice, and you're right, just leave out or change the button band in the future. Knitting is supposed to be fun!

  32. That book sounds interesting and I think the buttons will be perfect for the tiny tea leaves! I love the colour of yarn you choose!

  33. cute little ducks and beautiful blue sweater, what a darling combination! i love the idea of reading from stash only, but book buying is vice (joy) i will probably continue forever, i have no will power! happy yarn along day dear tracey!

  35. Love all the blues here - the pretty sky with clouds is amazing.
Gorgeous little buttons for the beautiful sweater.
Enjoy the reading from your shelf.

  36. Mmm.. I could just scroll up and down through this post over and over just to see that color. Love the sweater and the fact that it so perfectly matches the spring blossoms!

  37. Beautiful Tracey! What are those flowers? They are so pretty...

  38. This quote is very thoughtful. I love it. The book also sounds like a good read. We have adopted a little one with Down Syndrome and I sometimes wonder how these talks of faith will happen. I am sure her faith walk will look so much different than my first three children's but I also know that keeping a childlike faith will come easier for her.

  39. oh my, i love how your rosemary (?) is blooming. i really want to have rosemary that blooms one day because i have a recipe that calls for rosemary blossoms on the frosting... only the rosemary i buy here never blooms...
i too have to restrain myself as well regarding new books... still loads of unread ones on my shelves...
