It started with this....
and then I made this Bread.
Now I am thinking I should
try this Bread.
My life has forever changed
now that I have sourdough
in it.
Do you have sourdough
living in your refrigerator?
I have never worked with a real sour dough starter. When I was growing up, my mom would make something called herman, and it would live on our windowsill during the winter. It was sweeter than a traditional sour dough, and she used it to make pancakes, muffins, coffee cake, and other quick breads. It was delicious! In fact, I think I might whip up a batch soon...although it might be too warm and I'm not sure how it would do in the fridge.
ReplyDeleteTracey, after seeing these photos, I think I need to have sourdough in my life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the links, I love the quote and photos, just looks scrumptious!

I don't have one now, but I had a couple a few years ago (then we went gluten free for a bit). My favorite recipe was english muffins. It is all so yummy.
ReplyDeleteI need sourdough in my life too! YUM.
ReplyDeleteoh, yes, I do NEED sourdough in my life!!! I can almost smell it baking!! :)
ReplyDeleteNot us, we are gluten free. It all looks so delish though.
ReplyDeleteI'm ashamed to say that I had a starter many years ago... and I killed it. I'm so ashamed. It was a perfectly happy, healthy starter for months and I can't even remember how it happened, I believe it may have been neglect. The overwhelming sense of guilt has kept me from thinking that I was responsible enough to have another... though I am much more mature now. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks wonderful. Obviously you deserve your starter!
Blessings, Debbie
Oh yum! There is a sourdough-sized hole in my life; how did you know?
ReplyDeleteI really need to get another starter going! I miss mine. Those buns look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it may just be a bread baking day! Yum! When I lived at home in PA people would gift us with Amish Friendship Bread and the starter, it was so good! Your pictures brought back some sweet memories.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking at the starter from KAF and was wondering about it!
ReplyDeleteYep.. I think I need more sourdough in my life.
Oh it looks delicious! I've never had sourdough living in my refrigerator. I can't bake bread to save my life though :-( I don't know what I do but it always comes out flat and yucky. I am sooo bummed about it too because I love home made bread.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a yeast problem. When I started making bread, I had the same problem and it was because I was using water that was too hot and it was killing the yeast. Don't give up!!
DeleteYes we do. Wouldn't be without it now. Been going for 2 years now.
ReplyDeletemmmmmm, bread! I think I could eat a whole entire loaf if left on my own.
ReplyDeleteI don't, but I should. Thank you for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI don't... but I need to make some. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done sourdough in years. It is lovely though.
ReplyDeleteyum...We got hooked on the artisan bread in 5 minutes a day thing over the winter. Similar to a sour dough starter in the fridge, I must say I love it and soooo easy...what fun baking bread can be
ReplyDeleteOh Tracey.. I did but it died when I went on holiday!
ReplyDeleteWishing I could eat some of your sourdough bread.
Sending you love.
It's funny. I have kids. I have animals. I keep them all fed and alive. But starter is like a potted plant - it's not likely to live long in my care! :/
ReplyDeleteI had a sourdough starter a few years ago and it was fun to make the bread and give starter to friends. I wish I would have kept it going. I love sharing with friends! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteNo I don't but I must start!
ReplyDeleteNo, I sure don't but you've convinced me! That bun looks heavenly.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I am not a big fan of sourdough, though every now and then with the right kind of soup I do enjoy. Bread though, mmmm, brings all kinds of warm fuzzies :).

sourdough has always been my absolute favorite, especially the sour dough bread that my mom would get at the bakeries at home in germany. when i moved to the states i couldn't find sourdough bread like the kind i knew from home but quickly gave up on trying to make it myself since i just couldn't get it right. i didn't realize you could buy that stuff and keep it in the fridge... a new era might just have begun ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't have sourdough starter in my fridge, but really would love to as much as I'd like to be able to drop a jar by the sweet homes of my friends.
ReplyDeleteMaking my own sourdough starter is on my to-do list. But I'm giving bread a break for a bit, although I must admit you pictures have me drooling. I'd kill for some new made bread smeared with butter and honey, mmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteNo starter here, Tracey, but I can smell the wonderfullness all the way to here.
