SILVERLEAF IN GREY

In the rhythm of
the needles there
is music for the
soul!

I cast on September 1, the same
day Hurricane Hermine was making
it's way from the Florida toward
South Carolina.

As the feeder bands came through
and the wind picked up speed, even
managing to up root my favorite pecan
tree and lay it on the powerline, I knit.
As the storm blew past and things calmed
down, I knit.

By Monday evening I was casting off
and on Tuesday morning there was
a good soak and a gentle blocking.

Silverleaf in Grey!

The yarn a gift from my family in
Germany, together with the simple
elegance of the pattern has made
this knit something I will treasure
for years to come.

Thank you Lisa Hannes for sharing
such a beautiful and fun pattern.

AN AUTUMN YARN ALONG

I'm so glad I live in a world
where there are Octobers.

~ Anne of Green Gables

    [Chanterelles !!!]

I took a little time off from
knitting my shawl to work
on a few hats, [here and here],
but now that they are done
it's back to the zen knitting
this shawl brings.

Station Eleven is on my night
stand and Autumn is my after-
noon reading.

DOING MY THING

Do your thing,
Do it unapologetically.
Don't be discouraged
by criticism. You probably
know what they are going
to say. Pay no mind to
the fear of failure.  It's far
more valuable that success.
Take ownership, take chances,
and have fun. And no matter
what, don't ever stop doing
your thing.

~ Asher Roth

Have you enjoyed your weekend?

Mine has been very quiet. I finally
blocked my blanket and then took
it for a quick photo shoot before
the rain fell again and the mosquito's
carried me away.

I am so pleased with how this project
turned out and now it is stored away
in the cedar chest until it is wrapped
up to be given away at Christmas.

I started my new knit project Follow Me,
but I made a mistake on one stitch when
I added the contrasting cream stripe. I knit
on it for a few hours more before I knew
I needed to start over, it was really driving
me nuts, it's all I could focus on when I
looked at the shawl,  so I ripped back to
the beginning, and now am much happier,
no mistake. I should have just ripped back
as soon as I saw the error, but sometimes
I must learn the hard way. Sigh.

I've watched old movies, The Quiet Man
and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, finished one
Audible book, A Man Called Ove [which
I loved] and began another, . I've gotten
my steps in and just enjoyed peace-filled
days.

A BEACH YARN ALONG

“All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage
of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and,
therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat,
in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when
we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to
watch it – we are going back from whence we came.”

~ John F. Kennedy

[No sand dollars were harmed in the taking of these
photos, I quickly took the photos and then put the
sand dollars back in the ocean].

I have found for me the perfect
summer knit project, Water's Edge
by Cabinfour.

With my temperature now reaching
100F and a heat index of 120F to me
the best place to be is at the beach.
One of my favorite beaches is Hunting Island
and I thought that would be an appropriate
name for my knit,  Hunting Island Shawl
since that is where I am spending a lot
of my time.

I am using The Fibre Co. Meadow in
Bluebonnet to knit the body of my
Hunting Island Shawl and I will be
using Knit One, Crochet Too's Cria Lace
in light teal for the border.

All the light we cannot see is still on my
night stand, but in my beach bag is Hissy Fit,
a light reread just right for the beach.

YARN ALONG:: READY FOR AN AUTUMN WEDDING

It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day;
the sky was clear and serene, and nature
wore that rich and golden livery which we
always associate with the idea of abundance.
The forests had put on their sober brown and
yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind
had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant
dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet.... As
Ichabod jogged slowly on his way, his eye...
ranged with delight over the treasures of jolly
autumn.

~Washington Irving,
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

 I can now exhale,
the shawl is complete
and I am ready for a
beautiful outdoor autumn
wedding.

Thank you for all the support
and encouraging words, knowing
you were cheering me on helped
tremendously.

I am reading The Invention of Wings .
