My knitting this week is a sock. I am using
Opal yarn and am enjoying each new stripe
as it appears.

I have a basic vanilla sock pattern in my head
that I use and while I have always knit a slip
stitch rib heel this time I tried something
new, Eye of Partridge, which I think is quite
pretty.

On my Kindle is a book I highly recommend,
Secrets of a Charmed Life. The book reminds
me a lot of books written by Kate Morton, even
the setting and time frame [England during
WWII] are the same. This is my first time
reading anything by Susan Messiner, but it
won't be my last.

WEEKENDING

It's been hot here in the
deep south with temperatures
in the high 90's and heat
indexes over a hundred!
I'm not even going to mention
the humidity, but you know
right? Sigh.

I spend Saturday doing
some house loving, even
completely gutting my ice
box and clearing out quite
a few jars that needed to
be removed. Cleaning out
the ice box is my least
favorite job, but now I am
so pleased with how pretty
it looks so I keep opening
the door to peek.

The corn is ready so it has
been on the menu twice a
day and with the egg production
up they are making a lot of
appearancse too.  Have you heard
that egg prices are going to
sky rocket due to a bird flu?
Kind of scary.

One of my son's stopped by
for a visit and brought me
a gorgeous pair of earrings
he bought while on vacation
in Sedona, AZ. Thank you
Charlie and Ashley, I love
them.

I frogged my grey socks!
Evidently the day I cast on
the second sock I couldn't
measure and when I when .
to fix my error I made a mess.
I really wasn't loving how
they were looking so it was
all for the best, now I can
devote all my attention to
my Hunting Island Shawl.

Today I have been at the beach
and it was nice to see the flag
flying, especially since today
is flag day.  I spent most of
my time in the water, floating,
swimming, planning my week
ahead. Now I'm ready for
Monday, how about you?

I am working on two projects this week,

the first is an sofa arm cover for a dear

friend who has a white sofa and a grey

cat.  I am using Paton's Grace yarn in

Natural and basically am just knitting

a long rectangle with a small ribbing

around the edge...easy, easy.

 

My second project is a sock using the

beautiful yarn I won from a giveaway

hosted by the lovely Donna of Knit1Spin2.

For this sock I cast on 64 stitches on size 1

dpn's and am doing a knit 3, purl 1 pattern

all the to the toes.

 

My reading this week is really good.  I am

reading Sister, a novel .

It is the story written in letter form from

one sister to another describing the events

of what takes place when one of them

is missing. The setting is in London so

it's interesting to read the differences of

how they look for missing people compared

to the US.  So far I am loving it and I

am hoping the ending is as good as the

beginning, I will let you know.

SPRING:: A YARN ALONG

I am doing something I learnt early to do,

I have two projects that
are getting equal attention
this week, the first is super-
secret knitting for a spring
swap I am taking part in. I
am thrilled with the ideas I
have come up with and just as
as soon as I can share the details
with you I will.

I knit a pair of duck socks
using the baby sock pattern
from this book and then thought
they really needed a cute hat
to go along with them so I
am keeping my fingers crossed
that I have enough yarn to finish.

I am still reading The Homecoming of Samuel Lake
and while I am enjoying the book I did
have to skim over a few pages that dealt
with the mistreatment of an animal, something
I can not stomach; my hope is that that will
not come up again or else this will be a
book I do not finish.

I have spent the weekend deep

cleaning my home, it really

needed some loving attention

and from there I moved on

to the birds homes for a little

cleaning too. The turkey's,

Leroy and Daisy have been

quite adorable lately as have

the little Bantams. Lannister,

the little rooster continues to

make me laugh with his tiny

crow and each day the girls

lay two wee eggs for me to

enjoy.

 

I knit a hat and a pair of baby

socks using this book. and

now I am working on a pair

of duck socks just because
I thought they would be fun.

 

I have discovered the show,

Parenthood [thank you Lisa]

so am spending my time watching

the first season while I knit.
Have you seen it?

Last night before the rain moved

in I sat outside and watched the

sunset. Have you ever looked at

the sky and just had to stop because

it was so beautiful? It happens to

me a lot.
