~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Linking with Ginny

I am so excited to start my
second pair of socks ever.
I saw Renee's pair and
Tonya's  pair and I just
knew I wanted to try a pair
with two needles.  I have
only just begun the ribbing,
but it is going pretty quickly.
I am using some leftover
 Fisherman's Wool I had
 in my stash on size
5 needles. I cast on 48 stitches
and am doing a 1x1 ribbing.

I have finally begun
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
that I have heard so much
about. Am I the last one
to read this trilogy?  I am
only 40 pages in as my reading
time has become rather limited
due to gardening and watering.
The back of the book says it is
a book that combines murder
mystery, family saga, love story,
and financial intrigue into a complex
and atmospheric novel.

What are you reading and knitting?

  1. I'm reading "Heaven on Earth", a handbook for parents of young children. and still knitting my Golden Wheat Cardigan...

hey Tracey,we just drew our giveaway winner on our blog. you are not the winner :( BUT i decided to send two other random readers a little gift by mail, and you're one of them. would you mind sending me your postal address to merseybluff(at)gmail(dot)com??

    have a great day!

  2. You are not the last one to read that book, I admit I have never heard about it. ;) Looking forward to seeing your socks, knitting them on two needles sounds interesting.

  3. I'm going to have to learn how to do 2 socks at a time! And I haven't read those books because I saw the movie and I just don't want to go there.

  4. Ok I am really interested to hear what you think of that book. I have picked it up and put it down several times in deciding if I wanted to read it or not!
Love fisherman's wool, can't wait to see them finished!!

  5. Can't wait to see your socks. I haven't read to book, but did see it on DVD. I could imagine the book being very detailed. Jacinta

  6. I read the books years ago and couldn't put them down! But then, I like that kind of thing. I didn't like the films though (in fact I only watched the first one). Somehow films never live up to the books.
I love the yarn you are using, it looks fabulous - I'm sure it'll make some lovely socks!

  7. I too got excited about the socks with two needles. I started a pair and they looked wonderful but felt too dense. I didn't have the right wool and in my haste I just used 2 strands of sock weight. Anyway, I tore it out but at least felt confident about the pattern. I guess I might pick up some fisherman's wool. Keep me posted on the progress if it comes to mind will ya? :)

    Blessings, Debbie

  8. i read the trilogy and it's dark but good. i found books 1 and 3 were my faves. good luck on your socks - there is nothing i love knitting more than socks!

  9. We have the books on our shelf (gifts from my SIL), but haven't started them yet. So, you're in good company ;-). As soon as I get the BSJ done, I'm going to try socks! I don't like using DPN...there's always a huge gap between the needles where I've joined in the round. But, my feet are always so cold and I have loads of small amounts of wool in need of knitting up. So, socks it will be even if they have holes before they're worn ;0)

  10. I finally read this recently. Its not the type of book I would typically pick up I found ti took quite a while to get in to it... at least 100 pages. However, once I did get in to it, I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading the next one.

I'm a new follower. You can see my blog here

  11. Socks! They are everywhere and one of these I'll get brave enough to try some. Love the fisherman's wool!

  12. Tracy,

I can't wait to see your socks! I like that your using wool and doing the 1X1 ribbing....

Thanks again for your encouraging words ~smile~

  13. I haven't read them... I have to do it. I just have to!

  14. I have not read them. So you are not last! Love the color of your socks, very pretty :)

  15. You are not the last person to read these books...I've been slow to get to them as well! Love the socks! I too have been feeling the pull to cast on a pair.

  16. Tracey you are not the last one! I have not read it- my husband is actually reading it on the nook now, and it's mine after he's done. I have been wanting to read it forever! The socks are gonna be fantastic! The perfect portable summer project.

  17. I am reading Glass Castle and I am knitting a dish rag (I am new to knitting) and crocheting a cowl.

  18. I love seeing your knitting. I think I need to pick up that book from the library-on the list it goes! I am reading Simplicity Parenting right now.

  19. I can't decide if I want to read these books or not. You will have to tell me how it goes for you. Here is my contribution for today

  20. Loved, loved, loved that whole trilogy!

There is a part in the book that made me really uncomfortable, so, just a little warning.

  21. Hi there...I thought I'd take a peek...I have yet to try socks, for some reason they intimidate me. I love that wool! I just finished reading this book too, and enjoyed its escape quality, though I found that it definately seemed written by a man. I thought it was a little much that the main fellow had a sexual relationship with all the female characters. Yawn. Otherwise, a good read. I'll be back for another visit:)
    xo Jules

  22. Hi tracey,

I also read the millenium triology of Stig Larsson. An amazing author! Never read books that are this exciting and well written!
Can't wait for the movies (does the 1st one already run in the U.S.?)
At the moment I am reading "Tell it to the bees" from Fiona Shaw. I like it very much. read 160 pages from monday only on my way to work and back and a little bit in bed ;)

Enjoy your weekend and lots of regards,
