BITS FROM MY WEEK

"Learning to ignore things is
one of the greatest paths
to inner peace."

~ Robert J. Sawyer

I have been trying to get outside as
much a possible and enjoy the
cooler temperatures. Well, cooler
for here anyway as I know many
of you are in sweater heaven and
a lot cooler temps.  I am still waiting
on that magical day when I can
build a fire,and I have already
begun my yearly wishing that this
will be the year of snow, hope
springs eternal!  Being outside,
whether at the beach, the woods
or just a dirt road always brings
me a sense of peace no matter what
is going on in the world, does it
have that effect on you?

The rain came again and with it
more flooding so when  I was
house bound I baked several batches
of cookies, [I won't confess to just
how many I ate] and I cooked up
a few pots of applesauce making my
kitchen smell so good. There is some-
thing about autumn that draws me
to the kitchen.

After the clouds and rain moved on
it was amazing to see the sun as it
showed it's face for a few minutes,
the sky was stunning.

I spent today in the bean patch picking
beans and then arriving home to begin
the process of putting them up for the
winter months. I do like working with
beans,  they aren't messy like tomatoes
or corn and I can make quick progress
with them. I roasted a huge pan tonight
for dinner, just rubbing them with olive
oil, sprinkling salt, pepper, garlic and
onion powder and roasting at 425 F for
30 minutes.

In the evenings I have been working on
a pattern design, just a simple fingerless
glove, and doing a little hat knitting, but
since it's a Christmas gift I can't show you
yet.

Remember that this is the weekend we turn
the clocks back.
Have a great time.

Much love,
Tracey
XO

  1. I'm looking forward to turning the clocks back...this is my favorite time of the year...Your cookies look delicious...and I'm doing a little secret knitting of the pink variety...my oldest nephew and his wife are expecting their first baby and we just got word that it's a girl...since I only have one niece and 6 nephews...a grand-niece sounds perfect...but a grand-nephew would have too... :)

    ~Have a lovely day!

  3. I feel the same way about being outside in nature Tracey, so soothing for my soul. Your cookies look delicious. I love the fingerless glove you are working on, are you planning to share the pattern once you have it designed?

Have a wonderful weekend Tracey, I hope some cooler temperatures find you soon (although not too soon, my parents are headed your way, they leave tonight, and I am pretty sure they want sunshine and warmth).

  4. sorry about the flooding and I wish I could send you some winter. We are having a warm up and might hit 70 degrees (boo). I love green beans and I never thought of how clean they are to work with! Maybe that's why I love them? Have a lovely weekend!!

  5. I can imagine how wonderful it smelled in you kitchen! Just like you, I love being in the kitchen in the cooler month and coming up with yummy things for us to eat. Tried a new bread recipe yesterday, apple cider bread. I've changed the recipe a bit already and have another tweak or two, but it will become a staple in our house for sure. Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. I love the quote at the top of this post--sooooo true! But hard to do.

Yesterday it was 75° here. No sweater needed. It was great walking in the woods while the wind blew and the leaves rained down. Your leaf and acorn cookies are so cute--isn't that just the best gingerbread recipe? I sprinkle the tops of my cookies with sugar before baking. Your fingerless glove pattern looks like it is shaping up nicely. Have a lovely weekend. ♥

  8. Your cookies look scrumptious. I must have a go, each year I plan to make a ginger house for Christmas and tree decorations and then end up buying them in Ikea! Hopefully this will be the year that I succeed.

We turned our clocks back last weeked...it was like we had an extra hour...lovely. Tomorrow is Halloween and bonfire night...

Look forward to seeing your new pattern.
    Have a lovely weekend,
    debx

  9. We were 67 yesterday! Sweater weather in the morning and then not so much in the afternoon. Rain arrived here, finally. And it feels normal after such a long, dry summer and early fall! I'm hoping you get snow, even a wee bit. :)

  13. Hmm, I have never roasted green beans. We normally just boil and then add butter, salt, and maybe some garlic. Those little acorns are super cute!

  14. I was wondering what to do with my afternoon - it's a misty, damp November Sunday here, indoors weather - and yes, baking cookies, what a great idea.

Wishing you all the snow you hope for in the months ahead Tracy x

  17. Your week sounds wonderful...especially all of the nature time! I'm the same way, my friend. When something is troubling me I get out there and walk it off! Most of our trees have already lost their leaves, but our oak still has 90% of its leaves clinging on. I love the brilliant colors of some of the other trees, but there is something that always draws me to the oaks. I love their leathery feel this time of the year.

Oh...and I love your cookie cutters! xo
