YARN ALONG

"So, I've been thinking about this whole
being happy thing, and I feel like people
get lost when they think of happiness as
a destination....We're always thinking that
someday we'll be happy; we'll get that car
or that job or that person in our lives that'll
fix everything. But happiness is a mood,
and it's a condition, not a destination. It's
like being tired or hungry, it's not permanent.
It comes and goes, and that's okay. And
I feel like if people thought of it that way,
they'd find happiness more often."

~ One Tree Hill
     {Tea olives and they smell amazing!}

After more than two years I finally
bound off my blanket. I didn't do
another repeat of the remaining
chart and I didn't do the edging
as written in the pattern, instead
I did a round of knit stiches, then
one of purl, then bound off, Just
the thought of spending anymore
time knitting this blanket made me
sad, and I don't ever want knitting
to feel like that so it was time to
finish this project. It still needs
the ends woven in and a good
blocking, but I think it will make
a nice family room throw and I
am content with it.

I'm ever so slowing working on
my sock and I am very excited to
cast on a new project. I am using
one of my favorite yarns, meadow,
and am going up a needle size to
meet gauge.

Reading is only happening late
at night and then only about half
a dozen pages before my eyes are
too heavy to stay open; it has nothing
to do with the story, life has just
been busy.

Sock update::
Socks for the Homeless continue
to arrive daily, you guys are amazing!
Thank you.

  1. Great quote today!
I have never ever had to go UP a needle size to get gauge! It's usually the other way, one or two sizes! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Good morning Tracey! The title of your new project made me think about the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Have you read it?

  6. I love the look of your yarn. Those are going to be some nice, warm socks. Your tea olive is beautiful! I don't think I've ever seen one before. I have a small olive tree in my yard and I love the color it turns in the fall. It gets bright yellow-gold and lights up my living room with color because it's right outside the window. I hope you're having a good week, Tracey.

  10. What I love about blanket knitting is that I can pick it up and put it down, but I use a lot more scrap yarn than I use a pattern. I'm so glad the donated socks are coming in. When I take my bag of toiletries to the shelter I'm going to tuck in some socks in all sizes.

  20. Hello Tracey,
I've been catching up with your blog posts over the last two days. I've missed so much! Happy birthday. I learned a lot about you from your birthday post.

I love these photos and the quote. It reminds me a little of my favourite Thoreau quote that: 'happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder...'

I love to see all your knitting projects, it's getting to the season when I can't resist the needles any longer.

    Happy days,
    debx

  21. Loved the series of photographs and the tantalising glimpses of your knitting. :)

Good job, finishing that blanket. Sometimes it's just time for a project to be done, isn't it? And blankets are good that way, since it's pretty much up to you when you call it finished.
