ANOTHER CHRISTMAS HAS COME AND GONE

THE SOUTH

The place where...

sweet tea and accents are sweeter.
Summer starts in April.
Macaroni and Cheese is a vegetable.
Front porches are wide and words are long.
Pecan pie is a staple.
Y'all is the only proper noun
Chicken is fried and biscuits come with gravy.
Everything is Darlin'.
Someone's heart is always being blessed.
Darlin',
It was a beautiful [although
warm and rainy ] Christmas
here in the south and I am
Exhausted and a little sad.
It happens every year... I get
up extra early and stay up
way too late; I make and bake;
I decorate and wrap; I gift
to all I know and some I don't,
it is what I do during and
for the season.
Now?
Now I feel a little lost, not
quite sure what to do with
myself and sad that another
Christmas has come and gone.
I have spent the day napping, knitting
and reading. I learned how to
use my swift and ball winder.
[they are a lot of fun].
I have worked on finishing up
the fudge and the last of the
pecan pie.
Tomorrow the decoration will
come down, bags will be started
for Goodwill donations, the juicer
will provide my meals and life
will slowly return to its normal
pace. I hope y'all had a wonderful
Christmas and I am looking
forward to a wonderful new
year with all of you.
xx

  1. It certainly is a busy time of year. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. I usually feel a little sad after all the festivities have come to a close, but this year for a change, I didn't feel that way. I think because I was so sick leading up to Christmas, I was looking forward to the quiet days that proceed. Blessing to you Tracey and your family and may 2012 be filled with many wonderful adventures. Jacinta xx

  5. You took the words right out of my mouth except that it is holiday time now and so we enjoy the quiet few days between Christmas and New Year. Our decorations don't come down until 6th January so we can enjoy them for a little while longer and then its back to work!

  6. Sounds like a perfect Christmas. I am itching to take the decorations down but I make myself wait until New Year's Day....that is only days away :)

  7. Oh Tracey, I'm like that too. Being 'event' oriented and then having a discouraging time afterwards. I think the lackluster colors outside don't help either...The swift and ball winder is a great gift though! I love mine.

  8. Such a strange time isn't it? I'm sitting here blogging when I should be dealing with the mess...Sorry about the rain on Christmas, we were lucky enough to get snow on Christmas day...the kids were thrilled.

  10. You sure summed up the post holiday slump? blues? let-down ?? quite well. But it's the "beginning" too--when (every year) I promise myself this is the year to get organized--this is the year to start EARLY on the presents for next year!!!--this is the year to use up the stash!!!!! (both yarn and food--I squirrel weird canned food!).
I loved the quote on the SOUTH!!!!! I may be in KY but we consider ourselves southern here (and of course, I lived in NC and SC--so maybe that counts, too!) Hope y'all have a perfect new year! Off to finish off that last piece of pecan pie!!! (for breakfast!)

  11. Everything you mentioned about the South I miss so much...

I love this time of year and it always seems like it's over before it ever starts (maybe that' because I wait to get things going).

I do hope you had a wonderful Christmas and look forward to a great new year with you.

  12. ohh...I so get it.
It's a bit of a letdown. I keep wondering what I should be knitting on only to realize all the knitted gifts are given away.
What a great idea to clean out for the Good Will.
You can always start on making some new presents for 2012 and get yourself a good start!

  13. I hope it was beautiful. We keep our decorations up until Three Kings, so we still have some time.. I had to cast on for something new on Christmas eve, just to make myself slow down gradually, and enjoy some knitting without deadline..

  14. It sounds lovely! I know that feeling of lost ness... I am a bit restless these days with nothing special to knit, make, bake, etc. I hope your find your 2012 rhythm soon... HUGS!

  15. "Macaroni and Cheese is a vegetable" love it.
I relate completely. Although this past year I did less than normal, so I feel restless as though the Christmas season never started- and now it's gone?
    Feels surreal.

and yay for juicers! I named mine Hank. He pulled me through the Pastry War from last Christmas.

  16. Loved that we both had pinecone photos in our Monday post! And a swift and ballwinder--what fabulous new toys!! There is much sadness to be had when holidays pass, a definite withdrawal. Unfortunately my mind is a bit preoccupied at the moment with things to come, but I think it will hit me at once I'm afraid.

I hope you have a terrific new year Tracey!
