GRANDMOTHER [OLIE] AND DONUTS

"If God had intended us to follow recipes,
He wouldn't have given us Grandmother's."

~ Linda Henley

She asks every morning for one
and every morning  I say No...
until now.

I found a recipe for the two
of us to follow...I am a grandmother
so it's in my job description....
and we set to work.

Everyone  should have a donut
at least once in a lifetime. xx

DONUTS:
2 packages yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 1/2 cups milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/3 cup coconut oil
5 cups all - purpose flour
oil

Dissolve yeast in warm water until bubbly, about 10 minutes.
Add sugar, milk, salt , eggs, and oil. Mix well. Slowly add flour
mixing well. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise until double,
about 1-11/2 hours.
Roll  1/2 inch thick and cut out donuts [I used a biscuit cutter and the top to a spice bottle].
Let rise 30 minutes.
Heat oil to 350 degrees. Fry in small batches, turning to brown both sides.

Dip in icing:
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2-4 tablespoons hot water.
Mix well until smooth.

  4. Tracey, your grandaughter is just precious! I have a Rod and Staff (mennonite publishers) where the mom and child make doughnuts together! LOVE it! Now, I am going to surprise my children with some this morning! Thank you! They are beautiful and I am sure delicious. Now you just need some ice-cold goat milk to go with!

  8. I make donuts once a year and here's the deal.
Right now while the process is fresh in your mind I'll say that I make them at 6:00 in the morning, the second weekend in December. My girls participate in a Christmas bazaar each year and we want the donuts fresh...
So we cook and bake like crazy the day before, set everything up the night before, then make donuts in the morning to be fresh on the table by 8:30 that morning. Maybe to some high energy person this is not impressive. Trust me when I tell you that every year it just about does me in...

    Blessings, Debbie
