"I would rather be ashes than dust.
I would rather that my sparkle burn out

in a brilliant blaze than it should be
stifled by dry-rot . I would rather be
a superb meteor, every atom of me
in magnificent glow, than a sleepy
and permanent planet. The function
of [wo]man is to live, not to exist. I
shall not waste my days trying to
prolong them. I shall use my time.

~ Jack London

This week....
It has felt like summer here
with temperatures in the mid
to high 80's, but I am holding
off turning on the a/c because,
well, it's only April.
The tree pollen is extremely high
so I have been using my neti pot
faithfully and am drinking cups
of green tea with local honey and
lemon. There have been a few
sleepless nights, a lot of coughing,
and a lost voice, but things
are turning around and I am feeling
much better.
Last week I watched an alligator turtle,
the first I've seen in awhile and then
I spied another this week. I do love
their little faces, but I know not to
touch them, they are a wee bit mean.
I've made quinoa patties twice this
week, along with peanut thai sauce
served over buckwheat noodles.
My favorite this week was peppermint patties,
although I took the lazy route and just
added a dollop of dark chocolate to
each square.
There was  a long distance call from a dear
friend making me wish we lived a lot closer
than we do. I started my photography lessons,
and am having a lot of fun, even with having
to do homework.  I am dreaming of traveling
this January on a fun trip to pet the whales
because I just have an overwhelming urge
to do so, doesn't it sound like fun?
What about you, did you have a good week?
Much love,

  1. Your week sounded wonderful. So glad that you are feeling better. I have to say that we don't begin to get pollen here in the mountains until late May. Your patties look delicious. So glad that you are enjoying your photography class, sometimes it is all we need to spark our creative juices :)

  2. Glad to hear that you are feeling better and surviving pollen season,,, I too, suffer through it. All those recipes look amazing... i am drooling just looking at the pics!!!

  3. So neat how you saw these alligator turtles! Your quinoa patties look good! I like how you're taking a photography course. I want to take one of those Groupon classes one day.

  4. Love this post- so fun to read about alligator turtles - never heard of them. Your photography class looks so, I bet you will get quality instruction from this - I am tempted. Now I know what to make for dinner tomorrow :)

  5. Hi Tracey - you take such lovely pictures! Have a great day!

  6. Beautiful photos! It makes me happy looking at the bright colors and the cute turtle. Here everything is still white.

  7. Your photos are already so wonderful, I think you could *teach* the course! xo Tammy

  8. Sounds like a great week and your food always looks delicious!! The quinoa patties sound delicious, I think I'm going to have to give them a try. Have a great weekend!

  9. Oh Tracey, I love that we got together in spirit this week, it reminds me of when we met in real life and just chatted up a storm. I love your photos, I think when my busy weekend is over, I'm trying those patties and cleaning up my diet a wee bit more. I'm inspired :)

  10. Gosh Tracey, your photos are just lovely. Sorry about your allergies, doesn't sound like fun at all. I hope your weekend is filled with good things.

  11. I'm still using my wood stove in April so I hereby give you permission to use your A/C. I hope you are feeling better. Pollen season is cruddy. We still have another month or so till we see any of that. You know, you can see and pet whales up here in Cape Cod. Just a suggestion... xoxoxoxo

  12. Tracey - you are getting awesome at your macro shots! That top photo is great.

  13. we use a lot of Great Courses for Bible studies at church....and hubby has gotten me the art history series for Christmas one year. Last year I gave a really really big HINT that I wanted the photography course, but I think he forgot. :( Can't wait to hear all about it. (It's still on my 'list'!)

  14. now I HAVE GOT TO TRY the Quiona patties! Thanks so much for sharing the link! Your photos are always, my friend.

  15. The Jack London quote was perfection. :)
Yay for starting your photography classes. I can't imagine your photos being any more amazing.
I have a special place in my heart for Turtles and often want to pet them too. If I saw one of those alligator turtles I would have pet them not knowing they were mean. Yes, I am one of those people. You would probably end up seeing me on some sort of "when animals attack" video. Heh!

  16. Just came across your blog. What beautiful photos! Love the turtle!

  17. your food looks so yummy. and your quote... YES!

  18. I had to google Alligator Turtle...It is huge and it does sound mean. I certainly wouldn't want to get on the bad side...

  19. Thanks for reminding me about a neti pot...I've just ordered one. Been meaning to for ages and keep forgetting. The rapeseed flowers are out in all the fields heralding the start of hay fever season here. Hope you feel well...I found a recipe for something that may help I'll go and look it out and get back.
    Love the London quote.

  20. ps love your new profile image too...
