BEACH READING LIST

I find myself at the extremity of a long beach.
 How gladly does the spirit leap forth, and
suddenly enlarge its sense of being to the full
 extent of the broad, blue, sunny deep!
 A greeting and a homage to the Sea!
 I descend over its margin, and dip my hand
into the wave that meets me, and bathe my
brow.  That far-resounding roar is the Ocean's
voice of welcome.  His salt breath brings a
 blessing along with it.

 ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, "Foot-prints on the Sea-shore"

Temperatures have been hovering
around the high 80's and a few 90's,
the water is no longer teeth chattering:
It's time:  repack the beach bag
with fresh sunscreen, my sunglasses,
and some fun beach reads.
[just a few old friends and a
few new ones  that I revisit
year after year as I sit on
 the beach with my toes in the
 sand, sun warming my legs, and
 waves crashing on the shore]

My Beach Reading List:
1:: Beach Music
2:: The Memory of Water
3:: Savannah Breeze
4:: Barefoot: A Novel
5:: The Gift of the Sea

What is in your beach bag?

  1. I have not read any of those books. Thank you for some reading list ideas. If we go to the beach it looks like it will be in the fall.

  4. I know it's a "kids" book, but I read Harry Potter 7 in it's entirety on the beach, and it was the perfect place to read it. I'd do it again! ;)
    If you can believe it, I haven't read a book since Owen was born... Soon I will again.

  5. Well, my beach is literally outside my back door in the form of a swimming pool ;) so a bag is never packed. But if it were, I would have a bottle of my iced herbal infusion (with fresh lemon balm), my handmade sunscreen (learning to make with zinc oxide this year) and First Person Rural by Noel Perrin (nice easy read)...thanks for the mental trip to the beach with you. Great fun!

  6. Ooo, I love the idea of having a list of books for beach reading! I'll have to work on my own. For now my bag is full of sand toys and a warm blanket - clearly I have some work to do (LOL) ;-).
