A WEEKEND OF CONTENTMENT

All goes back to the earth,
and so I do not desire
pride of excess or power,
but the contentments made
by men who have had little:
the fisherman's silence
receiving the river's grace,
the gardener's musing on rows....

~Wendell Berry, "The Want of Peace"

I set the alarm and got
up before the sun to run,
I am so happy to put on
running shoes and while
I only ran three miles yesterday
and today, it's a start.

I had to hurry back to the
house and grab my camera
to show you the mama turtle
I saw laying her eggs.  I now
have the nest marked to I
can keep an eye out for little
babies hatching.

I have been working in the garden
daily pulling weeds and picking
vegetables. Jars are being washed
in preparation for tomorrow's
tomato canning. There are ten
bushels to put up this go round
with more coming. It's been a
good tomato season and I am
thankful, last year wasn't.

I made another jar of pineapple
vinegar and a little sauerkraut
using this book. This is my second
batch of vinegar this year, I am
putting it on everything.

With the heat we eat a lot of salads,
and recently we  I've are really enjoy
this,  My guy's won't touch it,
they want their watermelon plain,
so there is more for me. It has
become a new favorite and just
in time since all the watermelons
are ripe.

I am enjoying a new order
of books that came in this
week. And I am enjoying a little
time with a hoop, needle and
embroidery thread. I am working
on a lovely pattern from a friend
that I will be showing you soon.

Okay, I'm off to wash more jars.
I hope you are having a lovely
weekend and are content and
happy in your part of the world.
