WAITING ON A RAINBOW YARN ALONG

May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

~Irish Blessing

 In between flooding,  high winds,
power outages and yes, even a
tornado warning, [exciting times
to be had here in the country]
there is always time to knit.
Truthfully I think knitting
is what has kept me sane
these last few days, well knitting
and keeping my eye out for
rainbows.

I managed to complete all 18,180
stitches on the sideways border I
put on my Learning Pi Shawl.
[ I mentioned it here ].  Once the
weather is clear I will take some
photos so you can see it. It is rather
simple, but I am proud that I finished
it and that I learned how to do several
'new to me' skills.

I am almost done with the body of
the Tiny Tea Leaves and then it's
on to the sleeves.  This has turned
out to be a very fast knit and if I
hadn't worked on the shawl  I'm sure
it would be done by now.  I am now
wondering if I might have enough
time to knit my daughter a cardigan
to match? If not, then her birthday
is in April and I think she would
like another cardigan.

Along with photography and embroidery,
weaving is on this year's learn a new
skill list, so I ordered Learning to Weave.
There is so many things I want to try,
to experience, to learn, how about you?

  1. The weather has been exciting, hasn't it? Every time a gust of wind blows through I wonder if my electricity will go with it. I think a tea leaves for your daughter would be awesome :) Have fun learning new skills, I think that's what makes life fun!

i think your daughter would LOVE a matching Tea Leaves... at least i would, i love a little (subtle) matchy matchy with my littles, but a mother/daughter Tea Leaves combo? Be still my heart....

Have a lovely, hopefully at least a bit sunny kind of day!!

  3. Oh my goodness, you received a whole lot of rain. Most of it seems to skirt around our locale. We had rain on Saturday, but Sunday was beautiful and today highs around 58! You are done with your shawl - you are quite speedy!

  6. Oh, Tracey! We've gotten so much rain, too. Somehow part of our carpet near the fireplace has managed to get wet from underneath (which is especially odd since it's raised off ground level..). I haven't been brave enough to check my (tiny) garden yet. Hopefully my lovely lettuce sproutlings haven't washed away.

I think it's so great that you have family to knit for. I can't imagine anyone outside of my house actually wearing a handknit, sadly. I'm going to post today about my new adventures in knitting.. if I can get my totally unmotivated self moving.

Yay for learning to weave! Are you going to buy a loom or make a practice one yourself? My oldest enjoys simple weaving. I'd like to think it's something he'll pursue "for real" as he gets older.

  13. Your knitting projects look very nice. We have had high winds but not much rain. I am fascinated by weaving, too, but I have too many irons in the fire now. I'd like to weave a rug for the bathroom.

  17. I must say that we are fairing a bit better than you are weather wise. Ireland is looking very appealing though. Weaving is wonderful. I took a class in college and loved it, particularly the treadle loom. It's a zen kind of rhythm thing.

  19. YAY for learning to weave! I'm learning to spin right now and it is consuming more of my knitting time than I had intended. Weaving is on my list too. It's so good to absorb your mind in something brand new to learn.
