MY HELPER

"[U]sefulness is happiness,
 and...all other things are
 but incidental."

~Lydia Maria Child:
The American Frugal Housewife 1829

There is a two year old
who visits me Monday-
Friday.

Her Mommy  [my only
daughter, Erin]  had
to be out of town for
work and her daddy also
had to work, so...
she stayed with me and
we had a weekend slumber
party.

We went to bed early and
awoke 'very' early. We
read books and dug in
the dirt. We tried a new
recipe and played with yarn,
we had fun just being!

On Saturday while hanging
clothes on the clothesline,
my helper was right there
helping...smiling and singing
the whole time...clipping pens
to all the clothes.

Whatever and whenever a task
needs to be done, this wee one
is the first one to yell, "I want
to help".  No matter the age,
being useful is a wonderful
feeling.

Oh please, do not grow up
too fast! xx

  1. How sweet...I wish they stayed that helpful. Unlike my teenagers who want to know how much they'll be paid if they help.

  4. I have to say that looking at the pictures I thought that you put the pins on the hemlines of your cotton shirts to get them to dry without curling! I believe Erin is going to bring innovation to domestic endeavors for the housewives of her generation. Wow, impressive little gal you've got there!
