in the woods and listen to the
magic whispers of old trees.
I received a message the other
day from a family member
asking if I would knit a
blanket for her two year old
grandson who has autism. He
has a lovey blanket in lavender,
but his momma has had to repair
it numerous times and when
it is in need of a wash there is a
little bit of a disagreement., poor
dear.
The only requirements were that
it be lavender, soft, and have 'holes'
for his little fingers, I think I
found that in using Caron Simply Soft
yarn and the pattern Cleardale Baby
Blanket.
Each stitch holds love and joy and
I am honored to knit this blanket.
My son Michael has read the book
A Walk in the Woods twice and
told me it is a wonderful so I
am now reading it too. I also
want to read it before seeing the
movie of the same name, a
movie Robert Redford is starring
in, I'm a fan ;).
Joining with Ginny and all the
Yarn Alonger's.
I love your knitting posts - the anticipation... What a lovely thing to do for a friend. And Bill Bryson is just so funny xx
ReplyDeleteyou are so very kind to be knitting that blanket, but that is you!! beautiful photos of your little corner of the world :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lavender color! Great pattern! I want to read that book too and can't wait to see the movie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing for this little one! I love that purple too, and have several balls of that type of yarn, it is so soft!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet to knit the lavender blanket and I'm sure every stitch will hold lots and lots of love. Tracey, I am always in awe of how beautiful the area you live in is. You're so lucky to call that spot home!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and thoughtful gift! I am sure this blanket will be filled with love! Woods is such a special place for me too... Thank you for this little walk!
ReplyDeleteCleardale is going to be beautiful...a friend of mine crochets baby blankets for all the new babies at church and uses the same yarn with great success! Dan and I saw Redford's A Walk in the Woods and liked it although at times it was a bit over the top for us...not sure if the book is the same, but it's a book I'm considering for 2016 'cause I like the idea of doing "the walk" one day, but that's likely a dream.
ReplyDeleteYou and your fungi... :)
xo
What a joy you are Tracey. As a mother of an autistic young lady, texture is very important. 🙂 I know that he will enjoy touching and snuggling with the blanket made with so much love.
ReplyDeleteI have never read this book. Something to put on my list. :-) much love, Mari
I knew if I kept scrolling down through the photos, I would eventually find your yarn perched somewhere pretty...and I did! Good luck with the blanket. Not a small project, in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet of you to make a blanket. I laughed so hard when I read A Walk in the Woods. I haven't seen the movie yet but it's on my list of things to do. I love Robert Redford...I met him when I was 13...he was a diner in the small mountain town breakfast spot I worked at! No body believed me that it was Robert Redford until the boss lady went to wait on him.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of you to knit the baby a blanket filled with love and joy. I have heard good things about the book and will be interested to know how you like it.
ReplyDeletebaby blankets are in my new year also, although I'm 'mindfully' (hee hee) finishing a few things before starting on them! (what restraint, huh?) I'll have to check out that pattern!
ReplyDeleteI just brought home the walk in the woods DVD from the library yesterday!!! This was one of my all time favorite books...can't wait to see it.
I love projects like that - you know it will be used and loved. I have to add that book to my list. I heard about the movie. I like to read the book as well before I watch. I didn't change anything on the blog - it's probably Blogger being quirky again. I really do need to change it up a bit though.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Tracey! What I hear in my head is lines from a children's book we have "When I went for a walk in the forest"...That is a very sweet knit you are doing. I know as s young mother I would be overwhelmed by the care and time being lavished on an item for my child!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet blanket to knit. caron simply soft is really...very soft. I think he will love it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed A Walk in the Woods as well. It's so amazing to look at your photos, and my photos, and see how different our weather and our environments are right now!
ReplyDeleteWhat a loving thing to do for that little boy. I really like Caron Simply Soft, it's very nice for blankets. He will adore it.
ReplyDeleteHow special to be knitting that blanket and thank you for sharing about A Walk in the Woods - a book I have considered reading in the past and will keep my eyes open for the movie when it comes available in Netflix someday in the future. Wishing you a happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteI read this book many years ago and remember laughing a lot. We just saw the movie. It isn't all that good - but we still were giggling out loud several times!

ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lovely knitting project. I love some Bill Bryson!
ReplyDeleteI love that book and Robert Redford (I'm a sucker for blonds). You are a wonderful friend to take on such a special project. I associate lavender with dreams and peace and heaven--it's no wonder that little boy loves it. ♥
ReplyDeleteI love the simply soft Caron yarns! I love the colors and they are easy to work with! And affordable! Love the color of that blankie! You are such a sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteAdding that book to my list, thanks for sharing Tracey. So very sweet of you to be knitting up that blanket. I am sure the little recipient is going to be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteI had to do a double take at the picture of the yarn on the tree. Once my brain registered what I was seeing I had to smile, nice picture. Love the lavender, what a sweet project. Please post a picture of the finished blanket.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good book Tracey - I read it years ago and actually own it. That is a lovely project to be working on.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to be asked. I'll have to try Bill Bryson again in the future as his England one didn't cut it for me. Maybe I should try an audio version.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special gift. It will be beautiful :) Walk in the Woods is wonderful. I'm reading "At Home" by Bill Bryson at the moment. He is such a humorous writer. Wishing you and yours a magical 2016!
ReplyDeleteI have seen the film, it is very funny! What a beautiful day you had. Happy knitting
ReplyDeleteI love love love that purple on the log!!! It's going to be a beautiful blanky...Have a good weekend Tracey.
ReplyDeleteI love that beautiful lilac knitting and especially the reason behind it. Special knits like those really make our craft as brilliant as it is. You are amazing, Tracey!
ReplyDeleteSkip the movie and listen to Bryson read the book himself. The best :-).
