There is that in the glance of a flower
which may at times control the greatest
of creation's braggart lords.
~John Muir
It has rained here for
days and days [sigh] giving
me time to make dozens
of hearts, finally getting
the size I needed, using
size 00 needles and #10
crochet thread were
the perfect combination.
I finished Mike's boot
socks and attached
a little heart to the
back of each one,
giving them a little
somethin'-somethin'
because they are for
Valentines and I want
them extra special, even
if they are going to be
tucked in work boots
all day.
Reading this week is a reread
to make sure I remember all the
high lights of Upton Sinclair's
The Jungle. I am deep into the
horrible conditions of the stock-
yards and meat packing plants
during the time of the Industrial
Revolution.

ha! that is so cute that you added a heart to your hubby's socks... not sure if mine would still wear them, but then again, nobody really sees them anyway ;)
ReplyDeletei love that photo of your row of needles!
and yes, i meant to say already a while ago: should we ever get to Savannah again with the family, it would be awesome if we could meet there for a coffee and a chat ;)
this year we will probably not make it to the States... we have a big project of moving. i will share it on the blog in time... no, not a farm :( but part of a house with a garden, space for veggies, a rabbit and possibly even chickens ;))
hugs to you Tracey and have a good rest of the week!
Oh I love the little heart details!
ReplyDeleteThe hearts on the men's socks is brilliant! Every time your husband puts them on he is going to smile :) Sorry for the buckets of rain. That does get a bit tiring doesn't it??
ReplyDeleteLove those little hearts - what a great idea!
ReplyDeletethose little hearts are amazing! - great idea to make the socks special - although, I think all hand-knitted socks are special - these are perfect :)
ReplyDeleteAren't you so romantic! Love the hearts x
ReplyDeletegreat socks!!!
ReplyDeleteall that rain....it really looks like spring with all those blooms.
ReplyDeletelove the socks! (and the hearts!! makes me smile---thinking of them tucked in under the work pants...in the boots!)
Those hearts just made me smile. I am sure he will feel your love all day as he works in those socks. Swoon.
ReplyDeleteThose little hearts are adorable! I could see happy cheery garland made out of them and I love that you are attaching some to you hubby's socks! So cute!
ReplyDeleteOh I love those socks, what a sweet idea.
ReplyDeleteThe heart details are just lovely, and your photography is as beautiful as your knitting. Writings and photographs of the working conditions at the turn-of-the-twentieth-century can be heart-wrenching, but so important for everyone to understand (I'm a historian, so historical understanding is important to me!). Glad to have the chance to know your blog through the yarn-along.
ReplyDeleteThe hearts are adorable! And such a sweet touch. I'm sure he will love them!
ReplyDeleteIt's been unending rain here, too. I love that you made hearts for his socks. I can imagine going through a normal day knowing that I had a special love token literally tucked into my shoes - what a great feeling! (:
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to read the hearts are for Mike (I love them, but don't think my hubby would ever wear anything with hearts), but then you've got a convincing argument of the hearts being tucked away. It's a very sweet gift idea, Tracey!
ReplyDeleteAnd I also wanted to say how I always enjoy your line up of photos. They always seem to tell a story.
I love those little hearts! And did you put them on the socks? Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh those hearts are adorable. Can I say I love the picture of the knitting needles?? Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThe Jungle reminds me of 7th grade english class. What a horror. Funny how nothing has changed for the industrial meat packing system. The red is luscious!
ReplyDeleteI have never read The Jungle, but remember talking about in some high school class. I think that one day I will read it. I LOVE the idea of hearts on socks! Even they are boot socks. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteLove the socks with a little somethin'-somethin'. Oh my, the rain. I am sick of the rain. You know of course, in a few of months, we'll be begging for some rain because it will be so hot. Fickle creatures when it comes to weather, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteLucky man! The addition of the hearts.. Love. Looks like you have the makings for a beautiful Valentine's Day. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
Gorgeous photos-that flower is so lush and romantic. That has got to be one of the most awesome Valentine's gifts I have ever seen! Beautiful. Happy Valentine's Day.
