BURSTING IN TO FLAMES [AND A WINNER]

In everyone's life, at some time,
our inner fire goes out. It is then
burst into flame by an encounter
with another human being. We
should all be thankful for those
people who rekindle the inner spirit.

~Albert Schweitzer

 Thank you to everyone who
entered my giveaway. Thank you
all for inspiring me, for making
me want to be a better person,
for allowing me into your world,
for laughing and crying with me,

for teaching me to make lotion,
to knit cardigans, to expand my
library and my recipes, just to
name a few things, but most
of all thank you for being
my friend.

The winner was #43:

Steph:

Happy happy day! (for mama and daughter!) Such a nice, thoughtful way to celebrate!!!
Hugs!
Look for an email from me shortly

WEEKENDING

“Shake the hand
 that feeds you.”

~ Michael Pollan

Saturday was picking fresh
vegetables from the fields,
a crowded farmers market,
introducing people to one
of my favorite vegetables
seeing old friends and making
new ones, listening to the
band play, being surprised
at how many pets people bring
to the market, enjoying
a loaf of fresh sour dough
bread from a new vendor
and missing vendors from
years past. There was a
quick stop at the flea market
and only spending a dollar
[more about that on Thursday],
some weeding in the herb
bed and having to put down
pepper flakes to keep the
puppies from digging up all
my plants. Staying up way too
late trying to knit a rope basket
and realizing my hands may
not be strong enough to get
it as tight as I want.
Sunday has started off slow and
quiet with a hot cup of coffee,
a silent home and no plans, just
letting the day unfold as it sees
fit.

THERE IS STILL TIME

I am still a little under
the weather here so if
I'm not visiting it's not
because I don't care, I
just feel so lousy. I hope
to be back in full swing
tomorrow , but I did want
to remind you that there
is still time to enter my
giveaway if you like. Have
a joyous Thursday, I am
going back to bed.

YARN ALONG

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining with Ginny for this week's Yarn Along.

Most of my knitting this week
as been knitting Love Pockets,
although I did manage to do a
few rows on my cardi. Since I
am adding eight new stitches
every other row it is now taking
me a little longer to work my way
across.
Not long ago I saw some great
looking cotton baskets...and then
I saw the price...ouch! So, I decided
to do what I always do and make
my own. I found some cotton
clothes line at the hardware store
and I already own some large
knitting needles, now I need a
pattern. I hope to have time
this weekend to search one out
unless someone knows of a good
one they would like to share?
I am still reading Edgar Allan Poe
and am looking forward
to Raven opening on Friday.
I am so excited to seeing
what everyone has been up to
this week. Have a wonderful
Yarn Along Day!

A SEED

Don't judge each day by
the harvest you reap,
but by the seeds that
you plant.

~Robert Louis Stevenson

 A tiny seed was planted
and it has been such a joy
to watch it grow and to
be apart of something
so beautiful...thank you
Lori.

A LOVE GIVEAWAY

Each friend represents a world in us,
a world possibly not born until they
arrive.
  ~Anäis Nin

Twenty nine years ago today
I became a mother for the
first time. In celebration of
my daughter's birthday I
thought it would be nice to
have a giveaway to celebrate
not only her birth, but that of
the friendships I have made
the world over. Celebrations
are always so much nicer if
you can share them with
friends, don't you think?
Each of you has enriched
my life, inspired me, and
made my days brighter,
happier and fuller than I
ever thought possible and
I thought it was way overdue
to offer something in return.
It's just a little something in
comparison to the friendships
I have made here, but please
know that I love you all.

I am giving away a ceramic tea
carafe that I picked up on
my trip to World Market,
a jar of tea honey from the
Savannah Bee Company,
and five - one  cup servings
of Harney & Sons Chocolate Black Tea
in a little love envelop I made.

If you would like a chance to
win, just leave a comment.
I will leave the giveaway
open for one week and
announce a randomly
picked winner next Monday.

Update: This giveaway is opened
to everyone, no matter where you
live in the world! :)

WEEKENDING

 A weed is but an
 unloved flower.

  ~Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Saturday was a
girls day, going to
more stores than
I have been to in
months. Finally
going to a World Market
for the first time...being
totally overwhelmed by
all the store has to offer.
Remembering why I like
to shop on the computer.
Carrying a three year old
more than I should have
and now feeling it in
every muscle.
A quiet evening with
Mike just talking and
laughing, enjoying
a feta spinach pizza
and no dishes to wash.
Sunday brought an early
morning to the market,
a long phone conversation
with a dear friend wishing
she lived closer so we could
talk over a cup of tea, a walk
down the dirt road, seeing
the sun peek out from behind
grey clouds, finding little
flowers [I have no idea
what they are] that I remember
as a child and picking
a bouquet to place on the table.
Making plans for a popcorn
lunch, a marathon of Frozen Planet
and some pocket knitting.
Joining once again with Amanda.

DANDELION SYRUP

What I need is the dandelion
in the spring. The bright yellow
that means rebirth instead of
 destruction. The promise that
life can go on, no matter how
bad our losses. That it can be
good again.”

 ~
Suzanne Collins

We have been collecting
dandelions all week so
we can make syrup. It takes
about million flowers, but I
think we are just about there.
We are planning on using a
light honey as the sweetener
and serving the syrup over a
huge pancake breakfast and
maybe in a little tea. Have
you ever tried dandelion
syrup?
I wish you a day filled with
only joy and happiness and
remember to hug those you
love!

YARN ALONG

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining with Ginny for this week's Yarn Along.

I finished my Life Is Good Kerchief
and now have cast on a little
summer cardi, Allegoro Loose Knit Cardi.
I am using AslanTrends Class yarn and
while I think it will be fine for my
humid climate, the yarn does not
have the give that wool does so
knitting with it is a little slow. I am just
hoping it will soften when it's washed as
it feels a little stiff right now and
there is no way I could wear it as is.

In anticipation of the new movie,
Raven, the fourteen year old and
I have been reading a few of
Edgar Allen Poe's works. It's been
a few years, but I still remember
reading The Tell Tale Heart when
I was in middle school. On the
Kindle I just down loaded
The Feast Nearby while I want
for an order from Amazon to
arrive.  It looks like a light
read and that is just what I
need at the end of the day.

I wanted to say thank you
to Melissa from Wild Faerie Caps
for hosting a lovely giveaway.
I won a crochet cozy in a
lovely colored yarn and am
already putting it to great use.

WEEKENDING

<> <><><>

“We need the tonic of wildness,

to wade sometimes in marshes

where the bittern and the

meadow-hen lurk, and hear

 the booming of the snipe;

to smell the whispering sedge

where only some wilder and

more solitary fowl builds her

 nest, and the mink crawls

with its belly close to the ground.”

Henry David Thoreau

This weekend has been
a lazy one. I have
enjoyed laying in the
hammock [a gift to my
husband] reading, accidentally
getting a little sun burnt -oops!
Spent a few peaceful hours
down at the marsh, sitting
in my favorite spot just
listening to the wildlife as
they went about their day,
walking thru the pluff mud
enjoying the fiddler crabs
as they ran about.
Enjoyed another new recipe
for dinner and really, you
should try it...it's that good.
Today will be spent casting on
a new knitting project, looking
over my school notes since
sadly spring break is over,
looking forward to seeing the
wee one after a week of her
being in Columbia, SC with her mom
and dad. My son in-law graduated
from boot camp and is now
officially an E3 in the US Army,
still not sure how I feel about all
of that, although I am so proud
that at 33 years old he was able
to do it! How has your weekend
been? I am joining with Amanda
for her weekending posts.
[when I can get
back into her site].
