I THINK I HAVE A PROBLEM

Do you really think it is
weakness that yields to
 temptation? I tell you
 that there are terrible
 temptations which it
requires strength,
strength and courage
  to yield to.

~Oscar Wilde

I already have three projects
on my needles and was
quite happy, then I saw
 this and really want to
cast it on too!
Is this what it means to be
a real knitter or do I have
a problem?

WEEKENDING

“And that is just the point...
how the world, moist and
beautiful, calls to each of
us to make a new and
serious response. That's
 the big question, the
 one the world throws
at you every morning.
"Here you are, alive.
 Would you like to
 make a comment?”
weekending, my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just to be. if you'd like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to a weekend post in the comments.

Saturday was spent in the woods,
walking along the marsh edge,
sitting under the maple tree,
just daydreaming and enjoying
the sun on my face, enjoying
this beautiful world. I am
worried a little that everything
is starting to bud, two months
early and knowing Sunday night
is bringing in colder weather.
Not much I can do, but still...!
Fell in love with a new soup,
topped with a little quinoa and
plain yogurt it is very filling.
Found some time to knit on
my cardigan and a sock while
watching one of my favorite
movie's of all times.

Sunday has been spray painting
my picture screen pumpkin
orange, which I am loving,
regardless of the comments
from these guy's with no taste! :)
Baking chocolate chip cookie
bars for my guy's  [even
though they don't deserve it]
then there are plans to just
sit and knit!

I hope you are enjoying
your weekend!

JOURNEY OF LIFE

And the world cannot be
discovered by a journey
of miles, no matter how long,
but only by a spiritual journey,
a journey of one inch, very
 arduous and humbling and
 joyful, by which we arrive
at the ground at our feet,
and learn to be at home.

~ Wendell Berry

I wish you a truly lovely
day as we all travel on
this journey called life!

[Can you believe it is already
the last Thursday in January?]

YARN ALONG

"Now, let us all take a
deep breath, and forge
on into the future;
knitting at the ready."

~ Elizabeth Zimmermann

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining with Ginny

I finally decided I was done
with excuses and cast on
my abigail cardi using
tern yarn  in barnacle.
I have learned how to do a
new stitch, purl front/back
and with my Addi lace needles
I am moving along at
a good speed.

As many of you know my
daughter and her family
will be moving this coming
summer. Usually I spend
most of my time with my
three year old granddaughter
so I have been feeling a
little sorry for myself.
I gave myself a little talking
to and have come up with a
plan, a knitting plan. I have
decided I want to become a
Master Knitter! I know I
have only been knitting less
than two years, but I feel it's
important to have goals and
this is a goal I really want.
I still have a lot to learn, but
with a good plan and a lot of
practice it's doable! I just
A Master Class for Knitters
which I think will be a big
help in me reaching this
goal. Does anyone else
what to join in?

What have you been reading
and knitting this week?

WEEKENDING

I am thankful for the mess
to clean after a party because
it means I have been surrounded
 by friends.  [and family]

Saturday brought a continuation
of spring like temperatures and
a lovely walk around the marsh,
then it was back to the kitchen
to prepare for my son in-law's
going away party [he leaves
next Monday for boot camp].
There was a lot of laughter,
warm hugs, good food and
seeing some faces I haven't
seen since my daughter's
wedding almost eight years
ago. Thank goodness for covered
tents as we had a terrible
thunderstorm that brought
lightening and a lot of much
needed rain. After everyone
was home and the clean up
was complete, I could not
sleep so it gave me a good
chance to cast on my abigail
cardigan and knit the wee
dark hours away.

Today I have a birthday cake
cooling and lasagna sauce simmering
on the stove. Tonight just the
immediate family with gather
to celebrate my eldest son's
27th birthday. I have said he
was 25 all year and then it
dawned on my yesterday
that he was going to be 27!
I thought I was just 27!
Time is traveling by at a speed
way too quickly for me
sometimes and I am trying
very hard to live in each
moment and love all the
experiences this life is offering.

5. My breakfast this week

    from the rag bag.

YARN ALONG

"Love pushes a knitter's needles-
my needles- to create the best
we can for our family. And we
click on, anxious to see their
enchantment with what we have
created just for them."
~ Michelle Edwards in
A knitter's Home Companion

Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Joining with Ginny
I finished knitting the socks
I have been working on for
my son along with a pair of
fingerless gloves and as soon
as they are done blocking  I
will take a few pictures to
show you. I am very pleased
with how they turned out and
just hope he likes them.

After knitting with all that
brown I thought it would be
fun to use something with a
little color. I pulled an iridescent
tweed stripe from my stash
and cast on this lush-ious swirl cowl
for my daughter in-law's mother.
It's hard sometimes getting older
and going through all the changes
that come with middle age,
[as I know all too well]  so I
thought she might like a little
surprise to brighten her day.
The color of the yarn is really
radiant and since she is a beautiful
and bright soul, I thought
this would look perfect on her.
Sometimes it's just nice to receive
something just because, you know?

I am still [slowly] reading
and loving it!

What have you been up to
this week?
xx

WEEKENDING

weekending, my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just to be. if you'd like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to a weekend post in the comments. Linking with Amanda .

I woke early on Saturday,
hurried to complete all those
pesky household chores,
built a fire in the woodstove
and sat in my favorite rocking
chair knitting until my birthday
gift socks were finished. I am
now working on a pair of
matching fingerless gloves to
complete the gift and then
just maybe I will be able to
cast on the cardigan I want
to knit for myself. :)

I had time to play in the
kitchen and am really enjoying
this soup. I am so glad
there are left overs to serve
for dinner again tonight, paired
with a salad it's perfect.

Sunday has been a quick
trip to the market, a long
walk in the sun, finding a
great branch that I cut down
so I can make these.  Now
I am off to watch a movie
with my guys and maybe
take a nap!

I hope your weekend is everything
you hoped for and you are
having a great time.

YARN ALONG

This post is the sequel to last week's post.

I ended up frogging my whole cardigan,
there was a dropped stitch and I really
need to practice the p1 f/b increase
before I  begin again. I did end up
ordering Addi Lace Needles and just
the little bit I've played with them has
been fun! I think I have found my
new favorite needle!

I am a little futher along on
my sock, but it is slow to show
progress and I have come to
accept that these will be under
the Christmas tree and not
beside a birthday cake.

I finished the Valentine
Toddler hat and now just
need some cold weather so it
can be worn.

I am to the toe decrease on
my son's birthday socks and
would be finished except he
has size 12 feet [he is 6' 2'' ,
220 lbs] and I want the socks
to fit comfortable so I have
added several inches to the
pattern.

I am so excited about my book
this week, it is The Knitter's Home Companion.
The UPS guy showed up mid
afternoon on Tuesday and
since then I have been slowly
absorbing the contents. It has
patterns, recipes, stories, and
book recommendations.  I am
loving it! The author, Michelle
Edwards states that 'Knitting is
not just a metaphor,  Knitting is
a Life' ... I agree!

What have you been up to this
week?

A WINTER"S GARDEN

Earth is here so kind,
that just tickle her
with a hoe and she
laughs with a harvest.

 ~Douglas William Jerrold

 [lettuce]
 [radish]
 [collards]
 [red onions]
 [broccoli]
 [garlic]
 [spinach]
[carrots]

I may complain [a lot] about
not having snow, we need rain,
and it is definitely not as
pretty as a spring garden,
but I have to say that
I am enjoying the fresh
produce right out my
back door.
Now if I can just find
where I put my hoe as
there are a few weeds
I need to take care of.
Next week I will show

you what's growing
 in the green house.

WEEKENDING

At times you ought to stay alone,
I make so bold as to  advise
And just be friendly with your soul-
Your soul will miss you otherwise.

~ Rebecca McCann

weekending, my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just to be. if you'd like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to a weekend post in the commentsJoining with Amanda for her weekending post.

With everyone out of the house
there has been some much needed
quiet time for me to just piddle
around doing little jobs that probably
only I notice, cleaning out a
junk drawer, reorganizing
the kitchen office, finally weeding
the herb bed. Then I sat in
the sun [with the temperature
being 72 degrees] and knit the
afternoon away. I enjoyed a
huge [serving bowl size] salad
eaten by candle light, reading
The Knitter's Life List, this is
a book I know I will continue
to enjoy for many years to come.
Went to bed way too late and
then slept past sunrise, something
I rarely do.

Sunday has been quiet meditation,
a long walk and now I have
plans with a movie and
a bowl of popcorn. My family
will return this evening so
I am going to enjoy the
quiet a little longer before I
soak in lots of missed
family time.

I hope you are having a
wonderful weekend.
